School Feeding Programs

You’re at work. Maybe you’re in front of a desk under fluorescent lighting, maybe you’re on your feet updating a patient’s chart, maybe you’re in front of a class of energetic kindergarteners. Regardless, all you can think about is that pizza you’re going to make for dinner with the cheese and the spinach and the pesto sauce. Many of us have experienced that anticipation of a meal to come. Yet, many children in the world go without food or eat very little. They go to school hungry because their parents or guardians cannot afford enough food. We understand that proper nutrition is key to success in the classroom: it allows for healthy development and for mental concentration. The children that you choose to support may only have one meal a day — the meal that they eat in our schools. In Haiti (Les Cayes and Savanette) and Kenya, you are helping to feed approximately 994 children and volunteers each day. That is equal to 178,920 meals per school year!
