Chip Smith
Co-Founder
Chip Smith is the Co-Founder of Education Equals Hope (e=h). He previously served as Chair of the Board of Directors until 2021 and remains very involved with fundraising for e=h.

Chip has decades of experience in the business world. He traveled to Ecuador for the first time in 2006, and it became very clear that he was being called to use his corporate skills in a new way. At that point in time, e=h had grown from our first student, Laura, to 35 students. The grassroots program needed some administrative leadership and financial guidance.

Did you know Chip actually named e=h? Chip applied for 501(c)3 status in 2009, making us an official non-profit organization. Under Chip’s leadership, e=h grew from 35 students to thousands of students. From Ecuador to multiple countries. From one excel document to an operating budget of nearly a million dollars.

In 2022, Chip launched Hope 2 Others as an initiative of e=h after learning about the death of a Kenyan student due to diarrhea, a water-borne illness. Chip realized that e=h students around the world needed clean water to stay healthy so they could learn. Hope 2 Others has since distributed more than 1,000 water filters to students and families living in Kenya, Madagascar and Ecuador. Families also receive training on how to clean and maintain the filters. Water-borne illnesses have greatly decreased in the communities we serve that have received filters.
